Bitch Magnet cancel. But the show is still on.

So, after getting all excited about supporting them, Bitch Magnet have pulled out. But fear not, you still get to see us, as well as Model Boat and Big Jeff, and perhaps one more band. And it's now only £4.50 to get in, so instead of getting blind drunk this weekend save some of your coppers for Thursday 8th @ The Fleece. Doors 7.30pm.

See you there. No other shows till April, come and say hello. We'll be playing a painfully new piece of noise that we attempted at the Thekla recently, but this time we'll try harder not to mess the whole thing up.

Bitch Magnet. The Fleece. 8th Dec.

We like the Fleece. Yes we do. And we like quality rock bands that don't give a hoot about doing what 'should' be done. So it gives us great pleasure to announce our next gig as support for Bitch Magnet.

Despite their relatively brief tenure, Bitch Magnet were an understated yet significant influence on some legendary bands, including Battles, Don Caballero, June of 44 and many others. Their last gig was almost 21 years ago. They have reformed due to an invitation from Battles' Ian Williams to play ATP's Nightmare Before Xmas, and this rare Bristol date is their only UK headline show outside London.

Also supporting are Model Boat, who sound very promising from our initial inspection of their Bandcamp page here: http://modelboat.bandcamp.com/

And last, but not least, the omnipresent icon of the Bristol music scene, Big Jeff is opening with a solo set. Not to be missed.

Tickets are £12.50adv, but if you want to be added to Dead Maids' cheap list then it is £8. Just contact us via any of the usual methods and we'll put your name down.

Thekla. Top Deck. 7th November.

Apologies for lack of news, we've been slowly chipping away at new tracks. We will emerge from our preemptive hibernation to play Bristol's best venue on a boat, the Thekla (Top Deck), on 7th November. Yes, it's a Monday, but here are a few good reasons to come along (if seeing us wasn't good enough):

- It'll probably be our only show for the rest of the year
- It's £4 entry if we put you on our list
- Pure X, and Sleep∞Over are coming all the way from Austin, Texas and should be brilliant.

We've been waiting to play Thekla for years, so we're very excited about this one. Even if it is on the poop deck.

See you there.

Live At The Fleece

Well, that was the best gig in a while! Thanks to everyone who came down, the bands, who were excellent, and to The Fleece, a positively renewed venue which has gone from wallowing in pub-covers drollery to drowning in quality. We look forward to playing there again. We also got a pretty tasty recording for our troubles, which is now available for download on deadmaids.bandcamp.com. It is hopefully among a few new tracks to be revealed on the next EP, due to be recorded sometime in the not-too-distant future. No more gigs booked just yet, possibly something in August if you're lucky :) See you soon.

Next Bristol gig

So, Dead Maids finally play The Fleece. Hurrah! Not only that, it's a seriously top bill of unashamed post-rock greatness. Here's the Facebook event page: http://on.fb.me/ilco8E

Tuesday 5th July. £4 entry if you contact us by any of the usual means. Doors at 7.30pm.

Guitars, laptops, cello, valve amps, drums, vocals (??), basses and many many speakers. Bliss.

Please come and make us look good, it's a big old space and we want to fill as much of it as possible!

Bandcamp

Our old EP is now available for download at deadmaids.bandcamp.com

It's 'name your price,' so if you're a bit skint then you can get it free, just provide an email address. If you're able to fork out a couple of quid then we will send you a proper CD in a lovely cardboard case with inlay. Just pop your address in a note with the payment. Also, any payment will be put towards recording the new music we're currently working on. :)

The EP download includes the track 'Spiky,' which we used to play live a lot, but the recording has previously not been available. A positively brisk 2 minutes, quite different to our recent material. And there's even a burst of vocals from bassist extraordinaire, Danger Boy Dave.

No gigs booked so far for next few months, but we may well venture out and play one or two here and there. New material is progressing nicely. Keep in touch. And do share the link to the EP with your friends.

Thanks,
Dead Maids

Bristol Gig 19th April

So, Japanese Voyeurs were a lovely bunch, played a great set and let us use their equipment too. Thanks to those that turned up, we spent a lot of practise getting our set ready and think it went pretty well. This is the next gig. Come down.

Tuesday 19th April @ The Croft, Stokes Croft, Bristol. Supporting Austere, with Chairfight & Fungal. £4 entry. 7.30pm doors.

Gig @ Moles, Bath supporting Japanese Voyeurs

So, on to the next one. I've never put so much effort into getting an opening slot at Moles. But there you go.

Thursday 31st March at Moles. £5 if you let us know you're coming down. Please do, it would be great to have a decent sized crowd in there. Japanese Voyeurs are all over the national rock press with good reason, so get there early and watch us even if you just want to see them :)

Gig @ Louisiana, 10th March

Ok, bit late notice but no one seems to follow this anyway.

Gig tomorrow @ The Louisiana in Bristol. Support from Isola and Language. Facebook event page here: http://on.fb.me/eqIKW5 Come down and say hello. Great sound in there and good support bands too.

The next gig after tomorrow is on April 19th at The Croft, with Austere & a couple of others.

Thanks to anyone who came to the Porter Bar last Thursday, it was a great night.

Tuesday 25 January 2011

The next gig.

Many moons ago we played the Porter Bar in Bath. We collaborated with our friends Rob Sharples and Samantha Crockford for a twist on our usual set. It was packed and turned out to be a great night, so we're hoping to do something similar this time albeit without the acoustic slant. We have two special guests lined up who will be announced shortly. In the meantime here's the Facebook page. See you there.

Gig. Bar Iguana, Reading. Tuesday 18th January.

We are playing the second Locket's Cabaret @ Bar Iguana, Reading. There'll be some kind of open mic taking place from 8pm then Dead Maids will proceed to unleash some valve-powered assault on the tiny venue. Free soup too. Although I don't recommend eating that while we're playing.
